Daisy

I want to introduce you to my new favorite bunny, Daisy.  I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!  I know, I say that about a lot of my figurines, but she has a special place in my heart.  You see, daisies are my favorite flower.  I think they are the friendliest flower, so light and cheerful.  (David says they are just weeds!)  I even have a dog named Daisy!  So, yes, I'm partial to this pretty little bunny.

 

Daisy is wearing a bright yellow polka dot dress with a pretty white eyelet skirt and a crepe paper collar.  She has a matching satin ribbon on her big, delicate ears. 

 

 

She is carrying a pretty little basket full of daisies.  (Daisies are her favorite flower, too!) 

 

 

I've had a lot of fun the last couple weeks creating fresh, spring bunnies for Easter.  I can't wait to show you some more!

Cupid, in All Sizes

As I've mentioned before, I used to make miniature figurines.  Lots and lots of miniature figurines.  I had a very successful run with them for many, many years.  I sort of hit a wall with it when the craft show market went sour, the shops I was selling my things in closed, and I was going through a difficult personal matter all at the same time.  I took a much needed break.  When I came back to my love of clay, I reinvented my work into the larger, more whimsical one-of-a-kind pieces I do now.  I still have some of these charming little mini pieces available though, so I thought I would show you a couple today.

I have always liked these two adorable Cupids, in all their nakedness. These little darlings are only about 2-1/4" high.  I think they are very sweet.  Both are available in my etsy shop right now, for a very good price of $12.00 each!

Looking for Love

 

This one-of-a-kind Cupid stands about 5-3/4" high and his white feather wings span about 5-1/2".  He is dressed in a crinkled fabric toga and carries a handmade bow and arrow. A Valentine heart sits at his feet.  I love the expression on his face!  I have this adorable fella listed on my Pfatt Marketplace page and in my etsy shop. 

 

I love polymer clay for its diversity.  Look how different these cupids are, and they were made by the same artist!  I still have a soft spot for my miniature pieces, because they have been good to me over the years and have brought me to where I am today.  But I am really enjoying the new stuff.  I like the size and scale of the pieces, and I like that each one truly is a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Friday Favorite--Sunday Drive Studio

Today we're headed off to Sunday Drive Studio and the work of Amy Jung. 

I'm always intrigued by the work of other artists who use clay to create whimsical folk art sculptures.  Amy uses paperclay to sculpt delightful, vintage inspired holiday decorations. I think her work has wonderful personality and I'm pleased to share it with you here.

PFATT Marketplace

One summer Sunday afternoon I was browsing around online, looking at artists' blogs and websites.  From one I followed a link to PFATT (Primitive Folk Art, Trinkets, and Treasures) Marketplace, and then spent the rest of the afternoon looking at all the wonderful artists that are featured there. I was impressed with the quality of the work represented, and I wondered how it worked.  How do you set up a page?  How are the artists selected?  What are the fees, if any? I sent an email to find out more about it.

A few weeks later, I received a reply saying that I had been juried on to the site!  YAY!!  The jury panel had been to my etsy shop, liked what they saw, and thought my work would be a good fit with the rest of the artists on PFATT Marketplace.  I felt honored, because some of the PFATT artists are nationally recognized. 

I couldn't get started right away because of my workload, but I said YES, I am certainly interested, and I would be pleased to start in October.  So, as of yesterday, I am a PFATT artist!

Here's how it works.  Each artist has her own page with up to three items listed for sale.  Each month on the 10th, the site updates with new items, so every month will bring you different listings.  I plan to list three items each month that will be available exclusively on PFATT Marketplace.  This month I have three wonderful Halloween selections listed.  Here is a peak at one of them:

Just Jack

 

I was playing with some new ideas for Halloween characters, and wondered if it would be silly to make a jack o'lantern with arms and legs.  Well, maybe, but I think he's fun and quirky.  Just Jack is sculpted from orange clay, with striped arms and legs.  His black boots and mitts are trimmed with chenille.  His big grey eyes are handpainted, and he wears a paper polka dot party hat, trimmed with a crepe paper ruff.  He is carrying his favorite spider to scare all the girls.

Pumpkin Heads

More Halloween today.  I'm going to show you a collection of Pumpkin Heads.  All of them are made in much the same way.....polymer clay over an armature.  It's the details that set them apart.

A little story about these two guys.  I sculpted them completely, baked the clay, and was going to start doing all the fun stuff, and I realized that the pumpkin heads I had made were much too small.  Luckily, I always bake the heads separately, so they were not already attached.  A problem easily solved by making two new pumpkin heads. 

 

So I had two random heads lying around, and I couldn't let those go to waste, so I sculpted two more figures in a better proportion to those heads.  Here is the end result of that 'mistake':

This is just a little lesson in turning a mistake into something wonderful.  Sometimes you do have to do a little extra work (making new heads for the big boys) to get it right, but in the end it is worth the effort.

 

Now, back to work.....less than a month until my first local craft show!  YIKES!!  I've got so much to do.....
