An Itch for a Witch

I've been itching to create new Halloween characters, but I'm in the middle of lots of 'non-work' work, so I haven't had a chance to sit down and go for it yet.  I'm hoping to get back to work really soon, because I have lots of fun spooks haunting my thoughts.  For now, I'm going to show you a witch I created last fall.  She never got a chance to be featured here on the blog, and she is still waiting for someone to claim her as their own.

 

Potent Potions

 

Portia the Potion Master is wearing a black top, purple stockings and black boots all sculpted from polymer clay.  The boots are adorned with purple Swarovski crystals.  Her black and white skirt is hand-sewn from printed cotton and trimmed with a wide satin sash. I cut crepe paper for her fluffy collar.  Her tall witch hat is made out of paper and covered with black velvet.  A coordinating purple bow finishes the look.  Portia wears a pewter chain with a clear crystal charm.  She is carrying a tiny hand-sewn book with the ingredients for her toad potion handwritten on the pages.  A small glass bottle is filled with a sample of the potion.  I love the quirky look on her face and her big yellow-green eyes.  I used black curly wool roving for her wild hair.  Portia is fairly tall, at 7-3/4".

Easter Eggs

I wanted to come up with some unique Easter figurines that were not bunnies.  Or chicks.  Or ducks.  Something clever.  Different.  Then it hit me.  Why not EGGS? 

"Eggbert" came to mind.  I could call him Eggbert!  Silly, I know, but what's life without a little whimsy?  I'm going to show you three of my eggs here today.

Eggbert Wearing Bunny Ears

 

This Eggbert has been on the Easter Egg hunt.  He's got a basket filled with a half-dozen pastel eggs.  He wanted to dress up for the occasion, so he's wearing his bunny ears headband, made from wool felt and a white chenille stem.

Happy Easter Eggbert

 

I had these cute cupcake picks in my stash of stuff and thought it would be cute to make an Eggbert holding one of these as a sign.  I sculpted the egg to match the colors in the greeting, and then added a cute paper party hat trimmed with pink chenille.

Eggberta with a Blue Bird

 

This is Eggbert's little sister, Eggberta.  She is a pale yellow egg with white polka dots.  All dressed up for spring, she's wearing an adorable pair of grey Mary Jane's with Swarovski crystals, and a darling 'straw' hat made from twisted coils of clay and trimmed with a blue dotted ribbon and a little yellow flower.

I had a lot of fun creating this whimsical little eggs.  I hope you enjoy them!

 

Spring is coming!!  Only this time of year can you have 8 inches of snow on the ground AND have tulip bulbs starting to peek out of the earth!

One Last Spook

Since today is Halloween I thought I would celebrate by showing you one last spook from my 2012 Halloween collection.  This one is perhaps my favorite.  OK.  I know.  I say that alot.  She's at least in my top ten.  I LOVE HER!

Meet Jackie Sparkle:

 

 

My pumpkin head witches were popular this year.  I made several versions of this one:

 

 

They were never exactly alike, of course, but they were similar---dressed in striped stockings and a black tulle dress.  One day when I was making one, I thought, why not change it up a bit?  And Jackie Sparkle was born.

 

 

I dressed her in an orange body suit with black polka dots.  Her skirt is made from dozens of pieces of orange glittered tulle.  I used black crepe paper for her collar.  Her hat is made from paper covered in black velvet and trimmed with a little strip of tulle to match her skirt.  To add a bit more sparkle, I covered her boots in black glitter and trimmed them with chenille.  She is carrying a baton with a black glittered cat head on the end. 

 

 

Jackie Sparkle is off to a Halloween party tonight.   I think she will be the Belle of the Ball, don't you?

Friday Favorite--Leuckit

I am forever fascinated by people's creativity.  Especially when an artist takes everyday items and what seems to be 'junk' and turns them into something wonderful.  Case in point:  Leuckit.

Donna Provo Leuck uses kitchen utensils, old flashlights, candy molds, tin boxes--whatever she can find--and turns these common objects into clever sculptures.  It's recycling at its best---or upcycling, if you prefer.  I think her sculptures are fun and whimsical, and I'm pleased to share them with you today.  I've chosen five of my favorites to showcase here, but I hope you will check out her shop to see the rest of her clever creations.
